Prodrome and Postdrome

Migraine has associated phenomena that can occur before and after the headache attack.

Hours to days before a migraine headache, patients can have prodrome symptoms which can include various combinations of fatigue, difficulty concentrating, neck stiffness, sensitivity to light and/or sound, nausea, blurred vision, dizziness, food cravings, increased urination, frequent yawning, pallor, or constipation.

Hours up to two days after the migraine headache resolves, patients can experience a postdrome characterized as tiredness, difficulty concentrating, neck stiffness, irritability, or even euphoria.

Understanding the prodrome symptoms of migraine can empower a patient to detect an oncoming migraine headache.
